Delivers to Pasadena, Altadena. Referred by Revell
I’ve been ordering produce once a month from “Farm Fresh to You†for the last 3 months. Their
farm is in Ventura county, they are organic, and you can choose by size (regular or small) and type of produce (mixed fruit & veg, mostly fruit, mostly veg). My regular size mostly fruit box that was delivered yesterday included 1 large honeydew, 3 oranges, 1 lb of apples, 4 pluots, 1 avocado, 4 red plums (delicious!), 2 cukes, 1 bunch of carrots (divine carroty flavor!), 1 leaf lettuce, and 1.5 lb of the best Thompson seedless grapes I have ever tasted (and I have grown them myself in the past). You can select 1,2 or 4 deliveries per month. I do automatic payment so I’ve forgotten the amount, but I think it was $25 per time for the small box. If you decide to go with them, use promo code 6164, and you will get $10 off your first delivery. If you would be so kind as to mention my name, I will get a $25 discount off my next delivery. Submitted by Jane Neff Rollins, 8/18/12
I also receive produce boxes from Farm Fresh 2 You and have been very happy with their produce and especially happy with their delivery. FF2U is a family farm business based in Ventura. They offer tours and educational events at their farm. Submitted by Michelle Lesse, 8/18/12

My Pet Chicken statement: It’s easy and rewarding to keep backyard chickens, and we can supply everything you need to get started including baby chicks, chicken coops, accessories, books and free “how to†information, plus fun gifts and rooster decor. The website is: http://www.mypetchicken.com
_____________________________________________________________
You can order as few as three but for the sake of keeping them alive I would suggest more (for body warmth). They come by US mail so I went to my branch post office and warned them that live chickens would be coming and to please call me and not put them on the truck, and they were very accommodating and called me. The chicks are shipped the same day they hatch and come chirping in a little box with a little nest 1-2 days later. I ordered 10 but one was “defective†and died within 3 days. Sad. The others are alive and producing! And I love the variety. My favorites are the Faveroles and the Bantam Old English Game Hen (though I did not get them from the same place) and the Gold sebright. The Silver Sebright (beautiful too) turned out not to ba a jane but a jim so found a new home. You can get them sexed, vaccinated if you like (they guarantee 90% accurate on sexing–bantys particularly hard). He gets baby chicks every 1 to 2 weeks and if you have a breed that you want he will
order it for you if it is available. On top of that, if your chick gets sick or dies he will
replace it for you free. He is just so accommodating, it has ended up being the easy way to go for us if we want chicks. He also has hens for sale. Submitted by Gail Murphy

There’s a feed store in El Monte where they can order chicks for you. Below
is the information according to another homeschooling mom:The chicken source is Wes’ Pet and Feed in El Monte. Just go south on
Myrtle for approximately 4 miles? He is on the east side of the street.address: 4424 N. Peck Rd.
El Monte, CA 91732
626-442-0781He’s closed on Mondays, but open the rest of the week. I would call before
going. Normally, he’s open 9-5, but Sat and Sun are different hours. Submitted by Lily 6/17/11________________________________________________________________
I highly recommend Wes’s in El Monte, but probably someone else has already done this by now. I have bought other places and his all are good genetic layers compared to other places. You can special order breeds by one or two or whatever number you want. Submitted by Kris Topaz 1/23/12

For those of you who are looking for chickens, I randomly came across this posting on Craigslist. I did a little research, and they seem pretty reliable. The listing was at this url: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/grd/1910653002.html but in case the listing is discontinued, here is the phone contact: Jeremy 805-458-8612 Referred by Christina Wenger
http://www.dare2dreamfarms.com/ This is a great place to order from and
they deliver. They have all of these breeds available as well as others.
Lots of good info on their site and excellent customer service. Submitted by Shannon Brousseau, 6/16/13
Have you looked at Dare 2 Dream Farms? They are in Lompoc & they will deliver to Altadena for $30. I got chicks from them back in November & they were great. Google them. The available breeds are on the website.

I wanted to share our enthusiasm with Dare 2 dream. They are great. We had them deliver chicks in April and I went on a road trip with another mom and our daughters to pick up two more chicks at the farm in Lompoc. It’s a small farm with some wwoofers who help out. They also take back roosters if you happen to have one too. They really do care about their birds. Submitted by Virginia, 2/25/15
Does anyone know of a local source for coop-ready hens? … I know Dare 2 Dream Farms in Lompoc has them and they deliver every Tuesday, but they also charge $15/chicken in addition to a “per chicken service charge.” Which we would also like to avoid… Submitted by Karen Chang Ambrose,

Gary Dawson, the animal keeper at the Zorthian Ranch in Altadena continues to hatch baby Ameraucanas from his fertile eggs. If you are interested, you can contact Gary at gdawson6@yahoo.com
I got 8 chicks from him about 4 months ago and they are all healthy and happy. Gary will give you unsexed chicks and take back the roosters once they reveal themselves. Since we wanted at least 3 hens, we took 8 chicks. Still can’t tell who the roosters are!
Its nice to get chicks locally. No shipping. No babies dying. And Gary makes it easy to deal with any roosters you end up with.

I have been getting supplies (straw bales) from Damoors by the equestrian center in Glendale. They deliver 2x a week to Altadena for a fee. $8 for me in upper Altadena. There are a few other feed stores on the same road that service the horse community there but I haven’t checked them out. Cheers, Linda c
